I am in the need for a new chainsaw and the brands I am considering are Echo or Stihl. I know that the Stihl is quite established and considered the best, however, we bought an Echo string trimmer and have gotten more service from it than we deserve. I learned that the Echo has a chromed steel cylinder wall and piston, even on their cheaper models. I haven't heard much input on Echo and would appreciate some feedback from you guys.
Thanks as always.

Have owned an Echo CS-452VL chain saw with a 16" bar for over 19 years...The only problem I have had is the carburetor....It tends to clogg-up..making starting a pain in the butt. Some day I should clean it....I would buy a new chain saw but I can't kill the one I have...Stihl is a fine brand... ....

I prefer the commercial saws for performance. There is a difference in the torque and normally the rpms that they run at and they are normally lighter. DO not put to big of a bar on as it will hinder the power of the saw it is normally better to make two cuts if in big wood. ....

I just puchased a new Stihl Pro 260 with 16" bar a couple of weeks ago. Very impressed with it so far. One thing I really like is that the pro model has a decompression button that you push when starting. Works much like a decompression petcock on an old John Deere. This makes pulling the starter rope a lot easier. ....

Unless you're going to put that saw to some serious cutting on a regular basis I doubt you would find much difference between ANY of the MAJOR chainsaw manufacturers.
I would suggest you find the dealer most convenient to you with the best reputation for service and customer treatment, then ask their advice on what is best based on your needs.
Best of luck. ....

Get the Stihl. You will be VERY happy that you got it for MANY MANY MANY years afterwards. Big difference between string trimmers and chain saws. ....
